Eric Murray

Your tour host Eric Murray is a New Zealand rower and double Olympic gold medallist at the 2012 London Olympic Games and at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games. He competed at four Olympic’s and has won seven consecutive World Rowing Championships gold medals in the coxless pair and has set two world best times in the coxless and coxed pair with partner Hamish Bond. When Eric retired from Rowing in 2016, he and Hamish were undefeated in 69 consecutive International races. Eric’s infectious personality and love of all sports makes him the ideal host for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, and will add incredible insight from an athlete’s perspective.

01  Welcome to Tokyo Thurs 23 July

Welcome to Tokyo - a city that mixes ultramodern neon-lit skyscrapers and traditional historical temples. Previously host to the 1964 Olympic Games, Tokyo will bring the Games into the modern technology era with a unique flavour in 2020.

Upon arrival in Tokyo, you will meet your Tour Host, Eric Murray and fellow New Zealand supporters over a welcome drink at the ANZ New Zealand House.

02  Let the games begin! Fri 24 July

Get your bearings in bustling Tokyo with a sightseeing tour navigating some of the city’s main highlights. Includes lunch.

This evening, join New Zealand’s biggest supporters at the ANZ New Zealand house to view live TV coverage of the Opening Ceremony. This impressive event officially marks the start of the Games. You are sure to be amazed and entertained as Tokyo showcases its world- class talent.

Option to add-on an Opening Ceremony tickets package at additional cost. Subject to availability.

03  Hockey Sat 25 July

Today will be an exciting one, with your first taste of Olympic sporting action. Watch the world’s best Hockey teams compete, all vying for an early win to progress through the competition. We may have the chance to catch the New Zealand Team in action on the turf!

04  3x3 Basketball Sun 26 July

Enjoy a day at leisure in Tokyo.

This evening’s sporting action is one of the hottest new sports to be added to the Olympic programme - 3x3 Basketball. With 3 players per team and the largest urban team sport in the world, this fast- paced version of the game is a thrill to watch.

05  Nikko day trip Mon 27 July

Today our group will be escaping the hustle and bustle of Tokyo and heading 3 hours north to the beautiful town of Nikko. Best known as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Nikko is home to many beautiful temples, shrines, mountains and waterfalls.

Nikko will be a full day excursion, but we will make sure you are back in time to enjoy a ‘sand-sational’ Olympic evening at the Beach Volleyball.

06 Canoe Slalom Tues 28 July

This morning is at your leisure - relax, soak up more Olympic atmosphere, or immerse yourself in the culture. The women’s Triathlon also features this morning. Check out the swim across the harbour, or find a vantage point on the streets to watch the New Zealand triathletes in action.

Canoe Slalom is the key highlight of the day, with defending New Zealand silver medalist from Rio 2016, Luuka Jones who will strive to repeat her success in the K1 semi-finals and finals.

07 Rugby Sevens Wed 29 July

Today is all about Rugby Sevens with the men’s semi-finals and finals! As current World Champions, the New Zealand men’s Sevens team will be competing against tough international teams as they vie for a gold medal. Watch out for the Rio 2016 champions, Fiji who will be keen to make their mark again.

08 Rowing Thurs 30 July

Head down to the Sea Forest Waterway this morning to take in the Rowing Finals. Experience the best crews in the world as they race for medals in the men’s and women’s pairs and lightweight double sculls finals.

After the buzz of the Rowing Finals, you have the afternoon at leisure. Enjoy more Olympic excitement, or take a break from the sporting action and use the time for more sightseeing, or shopping. Ginza district is the city’s most famous shopping, dining and entertainment area.

Join us for a traditional style Japanese dinner this evening. Celebrate the highlights of your time in Tokyo and debrief before your final action-packed day of Olympic sport before departure.

09 Athletics & Rowing Finals Fri 31 July

Witness the iconic men’s and women’s single sculls and eights as they race for gold at the at the Rowing Finals today.

Tonight, head to the Athletics stadium for a night of Track and Field. Support amazing New Zealand athletics in the black singlet aiming to create history in Tokyo. Events in this session may include the women’s Shot put qualifiying round and men’s 10,000m Final.

10 Depart Tokyo Sat 1 Aug

Check out at your leisure. Say goodbye to your new friends and head home to catch the remainder of the Games at home in New Zealand (or during the next stop of your travels).

With the Games already underway, you arrive at an exciting time when the city has found it’s ‘Olympic rhythm’ and is heading into the finals stages of many sports.

Upon arrival in Tokyo, you will meet your Tour Host, Jenny May Clarkson and fellow New Zealand supporters over a welcome drink at the ANZ New Zealand House. If you arrive in time, you may be able to catch the women’s Rugby Sevens finals coverage.

02  Beach Volleyball Sun 2 Aug

Get your bearings in bustling Tokyo with a sightseeing tour

navigating some of the city’s main highlights. Includes lunch.

Tonight is your first taste of the live Olympics sporting action, as we head to Shiokaze Park to watch Beach Volleyball.

03  Equestrian Mon 3 Aug

After a late night at the Beach Volleyball, this morning is at your leisure. Relax and go at your own pace, or enjoy more of the Olympic atmosphere at the ANZ New Zealand House.

This afternoon, travel to Equestrian Park, to be part of the Equestrian Eventing Finals - a key highlight of the Games where we hope to see New Zealand in a medal contention.

04  Canoe Sprint Tue 4 Aug

It is an early start this morning to head to the water for another potential medal moment at the Canoe Sprint. London 2012 and Rio 2016 gold medalist, Lisa Carrington is expected to be racing to defend her title in the women’s K1 200m.

The afternoon is yours to enjoy at leisure before we regroup for a traditional style Japanese dinner this evening.

05  Nikko day trip Wed 5 Aug

Today our group will be escaping the hustle and bustle of Tokyo and heading 3 hours north to the beautiful town of Nikko. Best known as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Nikko is home to many beautiful temples, shrines, mountains and waterfalls.

Nikko will be a full day excursion, with an evening at leisure on return to Tokyo. You may want an early night before an action-packed day at the track and field tomorrow!

06 All about Athletics Thu 6 Aug

Olympic Stadium will be host all day to many medal moments in the Athletics. The morning session is expected to include the men’s Shot Put Final, where our unstoppable world champion Tom Walsh is aiming to improve on his Rio 2016 bronze medal and throw for gold.

Early evening, we will return to the Athletics to support the women’s Pole Vault Finals, women’s Discus Finals, men’s 3000m Steeplechase Final and women’s 5000m Final.

07 Hockey Fri 7 Aug

This morning is at your leisure. Take the opportunity to take in the culture and explore more of Tokyo, or return to the ANZ New Zealand House for Olympic action.

We will reconvene late afternoon to head down to the Oi Hockey Stadium to watch the women’s Hockey Finals.

08 Double medal action Sat 8 Aug

On our final day of Olympic Sporting Action, we return to the Canoe Sprint to watch our current 2019 World Champion women’s K4 team. Finishing 5th at Rio 2016, they will be looking to build on their success with a medal in Tokyo.

In the evening we head down to Yokohama Baseball Stadium to watch the finals of a new sport to the Olympic programme, Baseball. One of the most popular sports in Japan, it is hoped this may be a home final for the local team and the atmosphere will be fantastic as the silver and gold medals are won.

09 Closing Ceremony Sun 9 Aug

Spend today at your leisure. The men’s Marathon racers will take to the streets very early this morning. Get up before sunrise to find a spot on the street to see the runners in action.

This evening, join New Zealand supporters at the ANZ New Zealand house to view live TV coverage of the Closing Ceremony. Officially marking the end of the Games, you are sure to be entertained as Tokyo showcases its world-class talent.

10 Depart Tokyo Mon 10 Aug
